Writing Samples

Samples of Jacqueline’s Published Work

Some of my major publication credits include the Globe and Mail, Alberta Museums Review and Homes & Living Magazine. I’m also proud of my frequent contributions to special interest magazines. My work has appeared in the Canadian Journal of Medical Laboratory Science, Esprit de Corps and Frontline Defence. I’m always happy when editors choose me to be part of their team. I enjoy it when we collaborate on projects that entertain and inspire a specific audience or appeal to the needs of a certain readership. I acquire a unique sense of purpose through the creative process of writing.

The editor of Frontline Defence Magazine asked me to write a feature length article profiling the Canadian Rangers. This unique reserve unit operates extensively in Canada’s Arctic region and is comprised primarily of Inuit volunteers. My article appeared in both the print and online editions of Frontline Defence. As a correspondent for Frontline Defence Magazine, I have had the opportunity to write about a variety of military and defence related topics. Some of these topics have been Canadian in scope and others have been international. My feature article on the United States Coast Guard and the modernization of their aircraft fleet was published in print format as well as on the Frontline website. Please click on the link below to access a digital version of my article.

My work has been published online by Frontline Security Magazine. One of my assignments was to write a feature length article discussing security operations at Calgary Transit. Calgary Transit peace officers operate autonomously, but in close partnership with Calgary Police Service. In early 2008, the murder of a woman near a C-train station caused many to question this arrangement and whether all powers should be transferred to CPS. I explore how a major transformation in organizational culture was able to prevent this scenario. Today the Public Safety and Enforcement Section at Calgary Transit is more efficient and proactive than ever before.
